St. John’s United Methodist Church invites you to join our children’s music ministry, NewSound! This ministry emphasizes St. John’s mission of Transforming Lives Through Christ by teaching children to worship through singing. Our goal is to create a lifelong desire to worship God through song and NewSound is the first step. Children who participate in NewSound choirs (ages 4 through 5th grade) will have fun singing, playing instruments and developing their musical skills. These skills will form a cornerstone for their later participation in the Sonrise Choir. Children will also learn that singing is both fun and an act of worship. They will learn to share their musical skills as worship leaders by participating frequently in worship, not as performers, but as leaders!

For younger children- babies and toddlers through age 3, we offer NewSound Family Music classes for children along with their caregivers.

The NewSound program has three choirs:

Prelude is for children age 4 (by September 1, 2017) and Pre-Kindergarten. They rehearse Wednesdays from 5:15-6pm.  The children will enjoy discovering their singing voice while learning age-appropriate songs about God. The children will look forward to this weekly time with their choir friends and leaders as they sing, explore, play games and have fun with instruments. Prelude will focus on musical exploration and early music skills.

Psaltery is for children in Kindergarten through 2nd grade. They rehearse Wednesdays from 5:15-6pm. The children in Psaltery will enjoy developing their young musician skills, as they use their singing voices together to sing God's praises. The children will have fun singing, playing instruments and participating in musical games. Psaltery will serve as worship leaders and sing 1 – 2 times during the fall semester and 3 – 4 times during the spring semester.

Cantate is for children in the 3rd – 5th grades. They rehearse Wednesdays from 5:15-6pm. In Cantate, the fun continues while learning more advanced musical skills. The games, and the music, are more challenging… and more fun! Cantate will be active in worship leadership by singing at least monthly during worship services. They will also sing with other St. John’s musical groups throughout the year. Cantate will also participate in the Service of Lessons and Carols during Advent, other special worship services and community events.

NewSound provides a weekly opportunity for children to discover and develop their innate musical abilities. NewSound participants engage in both choral and instrumental music, as well as learning about the Christian faith.  Click Here for online signup. NewSound rehearsals begin in September 2017. All choirs meet Wednesday afternoons 5:15-6 p.m. in the upstairs education wing. Family Music classes are offered on Tuesday mornings and Wednesday afternoons.
